Reasons to be cheerful

Updated: 6 days ago

Without getting too slushy on you, our founder Melissa Fretwell set up White Camino as an agency that endeavours to do great work that brings joy. Be that through our clients who are in the business of positive change for people and planet or simply collaborating with decent humans who are a delight to work with. As 2024 comes to a close, amongst the scrambling to the finish line, there’s moments to reflect and realise that not enough is said about the good things that happen. The brilliant breakthroughs, the happy accidents and acts of kindness, sans agenda. This is our nice list with a little help from our pals.

“I think a lot about the butterfly effect of kind actions. This year I experienced this from an introduction a friend made for me. One intro led to an incredible chain of events that neither of us could have imagined from that first action. Act with kindness, no matter how small the gesture might be, as you have no idea how big an impact it could have on someone.”

Will Worsdell, Executive Coach, Adviser, and Marketing Leader

“2024 has been a year of personal growth and nourishment.  As a people person, I thrive on the energy of others. In the aftermath of redundancy, I’ve rediscovered the power of human connection—listening, sharing, and being fully present in the moment. I'm grateful for the kindness of others who have selflessly given me their time, support and advice. Every conversation I’ve had has restored my faith in humanity.”

Rachel King, Creative Consultant and Executive Creative Director

Entering into Y2 of agency founder life, the cold hard realities of new biz in a tough market truly started to hit home! Solopreneur life can be a struggle, but I’m grateful for the awesome support of my accountability group. As well as a sympathetic ear they gave me the most effective piece of advice I’ve had all year: get back talking to more people! So I did. And one call led to another, and another, and gradually I found my mojo again. In the last month I’ve guested on a podcast (which was referenced in the B Corp newsletter in all but name) and was invited to join a guest lecture at a university business school (on digital innovation in sustainable fashion). I don’t want to jinx it, but I think I might even be excited about where 2025 will lead.”

Ben Perkins, Founder and MD, Subvert Studio

The highlight of my year was volunteering at 'Louder Than Words', the B Corp festival held in Oxford in September. Living as I do in Oxford, it's an absolute treat to show friends around, when we have them to stay and they've not been here before. It reminds me how lucky we are to live in Oxford and how much I love this beautiful, fun and vibrant city. Volunteering at this event meant I got to hang out with lots of B Corp people. I discovered that they really are my tribe: professional people who think about social and environmental purpose, as well as mammon. Imagine then, the joy I got from two days of sitting in the Venn diagram of Oxford and B Corp. Bliss. And a big thank you to Warwick Events for organising it so brilliantly.

Ned Wells, Portfolio Marketing Director, Cicada Consulting

“I 💚 being part of the Carbon Literacy community! As a citizen, a passer on of knowledge and sharer of ideas! Make one of your resolutions to be a Carbon Literate Communicator in 2025 📝”

Gemma Butler, Co-Founder / Director of Can Marketing Save the Planet

So many generous people in our network who are of the mindset that we cannot solve environmental and social issues in siloes or alone. We became Clean Creatives ambassadors earlier this year and the movement has brought some brilliant diverse minds together to help address the climate crisis by declining future contracts with fossil fuel companies and their front groups.

Melissa Fretwell, Founder of White Camino

“Having Ryan Reynolds reach out and connect with me on Linkedin.  I thought this was it.... my fundraise is about to be completed. But, alas no! I was defriended as the connection was obviously sent in mistake! Lol.”

Paul Marchant, Founder of Stroli

It seems fitting to mention that instead of cards and lavish parties we donate to CHOOSE LOVE the charity that supports refugees and displaced people worldwide. Londoners take note, you can now visit us at the Choose Love Department Store at 245 Regent Street for interactive experiences and festive magic, all while shopping for people who need it most. It’s quite a lovely experience.
